id say a rough-scaled bush viper, which is the smallest of all vipers, with a length of upto 75cm, usually found in west & central africa. Its pointed and usually yellowish brown or green scales overlap and make the animal look almost hairy.
am i right?

I can't find anything so...I'll say it's the snake with specialized scales that protrude up like hair. I win! now what do I get?

The Keelback is also called a Freshwater Snake. Other than that, I guess i would have to go with some sp of Krait or Sea Snake. Tough one Jules.

The New Guinea Death Adder also has heavily keeled scales that would make it look like rough hair.
