Spitting cobras have dead on accuracy .....so does a weatherby 7mm mag. What is it that these two beasts have in common that makes them so accurate?

I already know this one so I won't say anything but it is amazing that nature and man have the same basic ideas on accuracy and that nature did it first.

The fangs of the spitter have "holes" in the front for spitting the venom. These holes are set up basically like a gun barrell. A gun gets accuracy by spinning the bullet, the fangs of the spitter do basically the same thing. By "rifleing" the venom a greater accuracy is gained along with a greater amount of venom hitting the target by creating a stream rather than a spray.

close brian...but rifling is the spiral grove cut down thru the barrel or fang that causes the spin. the hole in the front is just there to let it out. It is interesting that both man and nature came up with this little piece of engineering on their own. I highly doubt Sam Colt or whoever invented barrel rifling ever disected a cobra fang to study it.

Also, the jets of venom ejected by spitters cross over each other, adding further accuracy.

this is true...but I was just looking for the similarities in spitting cobra fangs and rifles. ie: rifling. As much as they are alike...they are also very different...venom has no lead in it and I don't think washing a bullet from a highpower rifle out of your eyes will save you. Aw, man, I knew this one! Actually, I think it was Eddie who told me a while back.
