I hate racers. Everytime I go herping, I give myself a little talk..."Don't chase the racers". Yet, there must be some primordial instinct deep in my gray matter to chase anything with no legs on sight and deal with the cuts and bruises later. They are the brer rabbits of herping...I have found myself entangled so deep into blackberry briars that I couldn't move so many times over chasing racers...and why? I don't want them, have enough photos of them...and out here, all of ours are black and fairly uninteresting except the cool blue belly on some...so what is it they do that makes us give chase? Please tell me so I can put a block on it lol

I love chasing racers.
they seem to always be the 2nd most common snake in my area next to texas ratsnakes, i've found as many as 12 in one day.
