Looks like a Pine Woods to me, but Im not real familiar with NC colubrids..They are said to be about 10-15" long with a shiny golden to a reddish brown coloring...Head being a bit darker, and the belly is normally yellow to white..I think they are native to your area though
If the stomach is red, it could be a red-phased Red Belly snake..Usually they are gray, or brown in color...They are primarily found under ground, though.. and they are roughly 10" max size..I cant tell length or stomach coloration really on your little guy.
Very attractive snake though!

We had all sorts of colorful corns all around our old house. None here yet though, only one single copper.

granted, I dont live in an area where they occur so I havent seen them too often, but do Rhadinaea usually have a pair of stripes going down the whole dorsum? I thought they were relatively patternless.
I know storeria usually have stripes
just curious.. I dont see them in person hardly ever

Description: Pine Woods Snakes measure 10-15 in. (25-38 cm) in length. Their dorsal coloration ranges from a shiny golden-brown to a reddish-brown and their scales are smooth. Sometimes a thin, faint, dark brown stripe runs along their back. A similar stripe may also be seen on the side of the snake. The head is a darker color than the rest of the snake and a dark line runs through the eye. The scales above the mouth are yellow. The bellies of these snakes are white or yellowish.
I got this from http://www.bio.davidson.edu/projects...s/Rha_fla.html
on their description of Pine Woods..

its not a pine wood becuase a pine wood has a solid orange or brown body and a rather large head compaired to that one ( more long and pointy) this one also has what looks to be keeled scale and pine woods have smooth scales, plus the marking on the head don't match pine wood have stripes down the side and this one has 2 white marking on the back. it looks like it is red-bellied snake

I guessed that too, I cant really see the scales on the pic...My eyes arent that good, and not having them as local snakes, I havent seen either in person. So, its just a guesstimate on my part based on descriptions

Looks like a Storeria occipitomaculata (Red-bellied Snake) to me. Easy enough to confirm just flip it over. Should look like this:
