ok explain this too me. My BCI when removed from his cage is kinda dark. But when i have him out for a bit he lightens up. whats the deal with that. He gets especially light if i have him around my neck for a while.
on a side note he has grown 2 inches in about 2 months time. Is that a lot, little, normal? he was born mid to late january of this year

some snakes will get lighter and darker with various temperatures and exposure to light.
as far as the growth rate of 2 inches in 2 months, is that going on measuring sheds or actually using a more reliable method of measurement?

They will also darken up after eating as their metabolism speeds up.

Measurment was made measuring the snake himself, not the sheds i know how unreliable that can be.

Even measuring snakes themselves can give a variance in measurements.
How are you measuring it?

as it slithers along a wall in my room it straightens out completely and i use a cloth measurer, basically a floppy cloth/plastic ruler

I use this awesome program Snake Measurer and it allows you to trace a pic of you snake and compair it's lenght to something of known length and the computer tells you how long your snake is. Very easy to do. No more fighting to get the snake in a position that makes it possible, I just snap a photo and trace it's curves. Get the program here.
