GRAPHIC: ATB necropsy
I had a yearling Amazon tree boa pass away last night. She has been regurgitating her pinks off and on for the past 6 weeks or so. She started to show signs of weightloss in her tail region and I noticed a swelling a inch or so up from her vent. I soaked her overnight, and when I checked on her last night she had passed away. Possibly she drowned (I forgot to put some paper towels in there, figuring the water level was shallow enough), but I wasn't hopeful she would make it much longer anyway.
Here's a pic of her, notice the discolored spot
WARNING the following pictures show what the insides of a snake look like, you have been warned! It's not bloody, but may turn the stomachs of any queezy people.

Here's a close up of the discolored spot. It's almost as if the gall bladder leaked and dyed the muscle and skin.
I think the ovaries swelled up for some reason, that's the hard spot I was feeling in her gut.

I don't know what all the white spots are on the anterior end of the lung. It was all concentrated in the anterior end of the snake, could it be fat or something more malignant?

Re: GRAPHIC: ATB necropsy
I saw a necropsy of a burm that had a similar gall bladder, the fat and everything around it had been stained green. I have been trying to find it, but no luck. I want to say the necropsy was done by JuliusSqueezer, but I'm not 100% on that. Sorry for your loss, I hope you can figure out what happened.

Re: GRAPHIC: ATB necropsy
I don't know if I'll ever figure out the reason she died. I treated her the same as all my other baby ATBs. I just figured people would like to see what a snake looks like on the inside.
I found a post about a boa constrictor the Julius did (this ATB's mom actually came from Julius), but the picks were taken off, most likely cause the threads so old.

Re: GRAPHIC: ATB necropsy
You'll notice the Gall Bladder on anything dead will have that spot. Doesn't take long for the Bile to leach out...........What I eould recommend is taking the Organs out and having a closer look at them. I don't see anything apparent, aside from the white balls on the lungs. Could be fat, could be Cysts.........Need better pictures of that also.........

Re: GRAPHIC: ATB necropsy
She was pretty. I was also thinking cysts on the lungs but I'm no vet.

Re: GRAPHIC: ATB necropsy
Thanks Eric, I just heard that from another forum.
He also cleared up some of my blunders for me: The organ labled "left lung?" is actually another ventricle of the heart and the "ovary" is actually the kidney.
Unfortunately I didn't take any other pics or remove the organs to check the GI tract (which is what the other guy recomended). It was just a cursory look through to see if anything glaring popped out.

Re: GRAPHIC: ATB necropsy
So sorry for your loss.
The gall bladder is normally that color on an animal that is deceased. The gall bladder is the first thing to break down to help the reast of the body break down.
