Re: male or female??
Surgery? Whoever recommended surgery as a means of sexing boas, you should never speak to again.

Re: male or female??
Yea, and won't buy a reptile from again, it was the pet shop that I bought her from that said the only way to be certain was for a vet to surgically sex but he thought it was a male

visual is the easiest but not 100% right from what ive heard. popping or probing should be left to the pros

Re: male or female??
they were probably referring to probing as sexing surgically. It's no more surgical than taking your temperature

Re: male or female??
yeah, probing and popping are the only accurate ways to do it, but you need a professional herper or vet to do it. You can get a good guess by looking though.
Males tend to have much larger spurs - the hind leg remnants. Male also have tails that are wider at the base and taper less rapidly compared to a female. This is so that there is adequate space to house its hemipenes.

Re: male or female??
Was told when i bought Rosebud, that she was a female, shes about 2-3' long right now and was told that she is about 9 months old, and that they might change sex? im thinking this was just to ensure that they werent "wrong" in sexing, but i plan to have her sexed in a few months....

Snakes are not hermaphroditic. Somebody was either messing with you or full of S**T.

Re: male or female??
Snakes are not like worms and multisexual. The only true ways of sexing are probing and popping . I'm too inexperienced to pop or probe so I have a friend do it.

i think when that happens, you just had someone that was sexing snakes and didnt know what they were doing so they mis-sexed them LOL

Re: male or female??
P.S From what ive read "popping" is a bad idea and mostly not reccomended. Probe or dont bother would be my advice. Others may disagree.

Re: male or female??
Popping isn't bad as long as a vet or someone with a lot of experience is doing it but I would suggest not to try and do it yourself
