When I mounted this mite on a slide and pressed down on the cover to get the bubbles off of it, I squished all the blood out of it's stomach. This caused the mite to become more transparent so that it's body parts showed up better and also gives an idea of how much blood they can consume.

I don't think anyone wants their pictures stolen and claimed by someone else...but I don't care if anyone wants to use them for educational purposes. Help yourself Lori..and anyone else who wants to use this or any other photo in my album as long as it isn't used to pull a Jesse Underhill type scam...not that anyone would be trying to sell mites anyway lol.
Oh...and thanks for the compliment Lori...this is why I had to keep the old Mavica....it is perfect for this sorta thing.

And just think, during an infestation there could be hundreds of them feasting on our precious babies.
That is a cool picture, though. The few times that I've seen mites, they's been tiny specs that look like someone ran their hand across a dirty floor.

Yah this mite shown is roughly the size of a pin head. Funny you should compare it to dirt. I thought I had 2 mites on the slide but one turned out to be a speck of dirt with a blue cloth fiber stuck in it. This photo was shot through the microscope at normal focal length as far as the camera goes with 100x microscope objective. The photo still isn't near as clear as looking right into the microscope...looking at it in person, you can see very clearly the mites entire vascular system. It's really cool.
