In the 4th pic, he looks like he is trying to jump over, but can't quite make it!

That 4th picture reminds me why I'm glad I'm not a toad. If my only shot at scoring was with a toad, I'd join a monastery.

no pics, but I also went for a swamp walk Sunday. Caught about 8 garter's, 1 frog, and the biggest snapper of my life. I got picks but I need to scan them. Also had a close encounter with a hawk too. And somebody shot the local beaver and everything is drying up already. It sucks. I got on a rock and saw tons of newts that live in this now drying up environment.

Thanks all for the kind words regarding the pics.
Unfortunately the few water snakes and ribbon snake I saw were to quick.

Yea, that stinks! One of the great things about red-spotted newts is their ability to quickly adapt to environmental changes. However the other amphibians (and critters) that depend on the water won't be so lucky.
Out of curiosity do you know the species of frog & hawk you saw?

sorry, I don't. I think it was a bullfrog. I found him in a stream very cold, I brought him to the pond that was still full of water. When I get the pictures back. no pics of the frog

Nice pics John I also saw a snapper yesterday crossing the road (I stopped and made sure she got across) it was coming from the wood and made it to the stream she was very slow and temps were around 80 I thought maybe she just layed eggs but thought it was a bit early for around here??
