well, there is a wide range of areas,
Fort Davis is always a good place, so Jeff Davis county is good, Terrell county (sp?) I dont live out there so I just know from roads from the handful of times in the last 10 years I have been.

West Texas would prolly be a deal breaker for me. that would Easily be a full day drive. Drove to Dallas and that was 16 hours for me. Would love to drive there but would have to be longer than a weekend herpin trip.

I would love to go to Texas...but it's time to put down some solid dates. Also, someone in that part of the country would probably need to either help someone else arrange the trip (I will help arrange one to Texas) or pick up the reigns and do it themselves.
As for the KY trip...I will put it together and get on the phone to the parks service to see how receptive they would be to having us. I'm fairly sure that Donnie would be happy to help me with this...but I'll let him speak for himself in the end.
South GA still has the Memorial Day weekend...GOING ONCE!!!

trip
I thought i posted this earlier, must have forgot to press SUBMIT, LOL
Herm and I are skipping the South GA trip this year...Would prefer to try to do something in NC or KY if it is within a 6 hour drive for us.
If there are multiple trips being planned this year, lets do some splinter posts to address those trips

I agree Schatz...and we would so love to have you guys in KY. I just want to clear up the South GA trip. As soon as I get a "yeah, we want that weekend", or 'No, you plan the KY trip then" from one of the GA contingent...I will start a KY post.

For the Kentucky trip, the actual LBL state park is out for herping, but we should be able to herp the surrounding region. I will get on the phone with some of my friends from Murry State University and see about that. We should be able to get a cabin in LBL just so long as the herps come from other place. I will also see about calling them and making sure that they won't have issues with us having herps in the cabin.
The only other downside is LBL is a very popular region during Memorial Day. We may not be able to get near the place that weekend.

yeah...all state parks are out for herping actually. Animals are protected in the state parks. Although there is a small population of Pygmy Rattlers in that area...they are protected as endangered animals...and should not be touched.
The fun is still in finding them...not molesting them...LOL
