Re: A couple hours in the field (and a mud turtle)
Awesome! Sorry I am not much for photography...had a back yard visit from an eastern box turtle this week, which I re-located out of harms way....and found a 10" aquatic turtle (with a leech on it's back that I removed!) basking near the pond, in the process! Also a fat toad peeking out of some mulch in my yard.... Great time of year!

An eastern box turtle in AR? Are you sure it wasn't an ornate box turtle or three-toed box turtle? To my knowledge, the known range of the eastern box doesn't quite reach AR. If it were an eastern box, it would probably be a new state record. I spent several years herping around south central AR. Sure are some GREAT herps in that area!

Just incredible! How did you ever find that little fawn? That's so precious.

Right place at the right time. Mom and fawn walked in front of me. The fawn could barely walk. When mom noticed my presence she took off and the fawn by instinct knew to freeze. Snapped a quick photo of the fawn and left the area so mom would return.

First off, I am in NORTH central AR...and now that you ask, I shall have to hunt her down to count her toes! I am admittedly no turtle expert, but she looked more like eastern to me & I could swear there were more than 3 toes? Def not an 'ornate' though... Oh well, you just made a good case for pictures!

Re: A couple hours in the field (and a mud turtle)
John, this amazes me. I lived in Boulder, CO for several years. There are so many deer there that they hang out in people's back yards. I have spent many hours hiking and wandering in the woods there. Never have I seen a fawn. I don't know how you do it. You really have a gift.
