An Unexpected Find
While trapping turtles (live trap) in a fairly small pond we ran across something unexpected. Three large Northern Snakehead Fish (Channa argus) in a single turtle trap. The largest snakehead got away, the other two were captured and killed. It was amazing to find such large fish in a small, shallow pond. Well, at least the sharp decline of native frogs in the pond can now be explained.

Re: An Unexpected Find
That's a cool fish. They were real popular in the aquarium trade, especially when I was stationed in Europe, years ago. Too bad they're so detrimental as an invasive species.

Re: An Unexpected Find
Are these the snakes in Florida that they are trying to save? Pretty cool. And is that finally a picture of you?

Re: An Unexpected Find
That's terrible! They are cool looking critters though.

Re: An Unexpected Find
The snakeheads are interesting animals in their native land, over here they are an ecological nightmare.
No, I'm not the one in the picture.

Re: An Unexpected Find
Snakeheads are probably one of the hardiest fw fish,, and absolute perfict predators, I used to LOVE mine! But anyone who let theirs go should spend years in the pen!
