The snake-less snakin' trip

The forecast was for warm dry weather so I arrived early at one of my snakin' spots in hopes of photographing several basking snakes. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and I spent the morning in a cold drizzle.

Was about ready to leave, when I noticed a muskrat swimming across the open water.

Usually muskrats are fairly shy creatures but this one seems a bit curious about me. Perhaps I smelled like another muskrat.

It was nice enough to pose for me and I got a several shots.

After the muskrat had explored the area around me, being carful not to get too close, it came over looked at me.....

Then just swam away.

It's pretty bad when the highlight of your snakin' trip is a single muskrat encounter.

Re: The snake-less snakin' trip

Well, that is one adorable muskrat, so it's not a total photo-op loss.
