How would anyone feel about another excuse to get together and go snake hunting? I was thinking of the Shawnee National Forest in Southern IL. Its supposed to have a real good variety of herps there. Lots of non-hots as well as Timbers, Cottons, Coppers, Massasaugas, and I think a type of Pygmie too(not sure bout the Pygmie) Lots of frogs and toads as well as other salamanders, and turtles.
Possibly Labor Day Weekend?
Let me know what you guys think.

Labor Day weekend in southern IL? Hmmm, there's a good possibility I might be able to go.

Ya know...if anyone is interested I would love to go to Texas and do some herping. It would mean that I would have to fly...but that would be great fun.

If I get a good response , I'll start to make the arrangements. If its only a couple people we still could do it. Just more fendidng for yourself, than a well organized group effort.

Sounds great. Come labor day the weather should be great and that area get rather pretty at the end of summer. It would be good to get everybody to go on another trip. That cabin looked great and they all looked like they had a great time.

Yes Illinois is considered the mid west. Mid East is Isreal, Iraq, Iran and such. I believe The term Mid-West is refering to a global position, not just in the U.S.

I guess that shoots down the whole "Sacramentans are a touch more intellectual than the rest" theory.

oh and does that mean that this post is referring to a camping trip in Irag? they said mideast! i think when people talk about camping trips they are referring to US location so that Midwest one is deceiving Mideast camping trip?

I've been to Shawnee before (about 9 years ago ) on a herping trip. I remember seeing many cottons, a few coppers, racers and a baby box turtle. The timber rattler was on the top of the "want to find" list but no luck. We must have picked a bad day.
That trip might be one I could make it to. As we get closer to labor day I would have a better chance on knowing for sure if I could make it. After seeing the pics from this trip I've got to make it to at least one of them. Looks like everyone had a great time.

You must be weary of all posts by Stormy, he can't concentrate with all those girls in bikinis that keep walking by his window.

Sounds like fun! Just to clarify, the "Mid-West" usually includes Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. Some people also include Kansas and Iowa.

Been doing some research. It looks like the only reasonable way to do this is by using tent sites, instead of a lodge. I cant seem to find any that would have a big enough lodge. (most say they hold 6 adults or 2 families) Tent sites seem reasonably priced enough. I was looking at having it in Jackson County. Here is a suposed species list for the county Species List This is by no means set in stone, and I am very open to suggestions.
