Sure would help to have a plot of land with some old tin and torn down barns or something staked out for us to meet at. Permission from the landowner is another good thing to have. ...My calander is very open ... You guys know a spot? lemme know

Where is everyone from exactly? I'm 4.5hrs east of Atl. I'll go where ever but we need a place. I'm gonna check a map and see if I can't triangulate something. If we meet somewhere we should be able to find snakes somewhere. When we get permission we'll say we're from some college and it's for research..... Well, I'm in Winston Salem, NC, so relative to Atlanta, I'm about 5.5 hours north.
Constrictor_BO & I were out this weekend placing coverboards for my herps species survey of my home county...all the coverboards have Davidson College Biology Department spray painted on them
But we cannot go poking around as a large group on these, several are on private property which the owners graciously allowed me access to providing (1)not a bunch of people are tromping around their land, and (2) not every week.
Besides, I think we need to find an equal travel place for the majority...
Nez, you must be about, what, 3.5 hours south from Atlanta? I'm 5.5 north, the captn is 4.5 east...it sounds to me like Northern Georgia would be a good spot. I really cannot see me driving 5 hours one way to go herping, as much fun as it would be. I'd really like to make it a day trip...thereby limiting it to a 2-2.5 hour drive, but that may not be possible and still include everyone. An entire weekend venture I just don't think I'll be able to swing...

Umm, I kinda looked at a map...Atlanta is kinda north Georgia. I think Princenez is prolly a little more than 3.5hrs south...
This kinda sucks for Prince (sorry dude), but I think the best place would be somewhere near/south of Columbia, SC. That works out to a roughly equal drive for Julius (and any other Atlanta area people) and me (and any other Winston/Charlotte people that wanna come). I guess the Capt'n would have the shortest drive...
I cannot come to Atlanta area to go herping, that'd be a weekend adventure that I probably wouldn't be able to swing any time soon.
What do y'all think??

How's that?? If you want to do it here that's cool. I got 2 ponds on base that I usually run through. If you come in April there is gonna be an Air show on base....I think it's the 27th or 28th of April. I got a futon, couch, love seat, and floor. Rooms on base are like $35.00 which is cheaper than any hotel out in town. If I don't catch any herps, I won't be to bummed. I just look forward to meeting all of you. There's a serpetarium about 45 min's north of me. We could teach them a thing or too....hehehe.
Somebody pick a place and I'm there.....sound good....???? Hey Jay, why don't you take the bull by the horns and pick a spot and see if we all agree. I'll check out a map. Princenez, what town are you from? You from GA, or FL??

Ok, the mountains of North Carolina...near Franklin. We'll have to watch out for bears with cubs in the spring, but hey nature is nature right?
I have relatives (wife's side) in Asheville, about 40 miles from Franklin, so I can drop her and the little girl off there and drive on to go herping.
I cannot go and stay somewhere overnight, that will be difficult to get through the 'Senate'

why not brings tents and make it an overnite thing? If I remember right there are some campsites in state and national parks in the western carolinas? I don't know how snake infested the area is, but I'd have to imagine that there's nowhere like the middle of nowhere, right? And what could be better after a hard day's herping than sitting around a campfire having a hot dog, some smores, and a few cold ones?
Just an idea...I'd be a little more inclined to go if it were more than just a day trip

Hey, y'all can stay overnight. Personally, I cannot. That is not to say y'all can't plan to stay overnight and go herping the next day. I can only get a hall pass for a day of herping.

I can pull an overnighter...maybe we could find a snake under our tent when we pack it up. I can get an 8 man tent from my base. They rent out things like boats and tents and stuff. So is franklin good for everyone else? If so we need a date. And I got to see how far Franklin is from Beaufort come to think about it. When we pick a date let's make sure it's gonna be warm!!!! I'm not one for c | |
