Some KY/VA Herpin'

Spent about 30 hours herpin' on the VA/KY border. The landscape was spectacular but the terrain made herpin' very difficult.

The salamanders were out in force!
Cumberland Plateau Salamander (Plethodon kentucki)

Green Salamander (Aneides aeneus)

A juvenile Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo)

Red-Spotted Newt Eft (Notophthalmus viridescens)

The following herps were found during the outing:
Anurans
Anaxyrus americanus (American Toad)
Hyla chrysoscelis (Cope’s Gray Treefrog)
Pseudacrris brachyphona (Mountain Chorus Frog)
Pseudacris crucifer (Northern Spring Peeper)
Lithobates catesbeianus (American Bullfrog)
Lithobates clamitans (Green Frog)
Lithobates palustris (Pickerel Frog)
Salamanders
Aneides aeneus (Green Salamander)
Desmognathus fuscus (Northern Dusky Salamander)
Desmognathus monticola (Seal Salamander)
Eurycea cirrigera (Southern Two-lined Salamander)
Eurycea longicauda (Long-Tailed Salamander)
Notophthalmus viridescens (Red-spotted Newt)
Plethodon glutinosus (Northern Slimy Salamander)
Plethodon kentucki (Cumberland Plateau Salamander)
Turtles
Chelydra serpentina serpentina (Eastern Snapping Turtle)
Terrapene carolina carolina (Eastern Box Turtle)
Lizards
Plestidon sp. (Five-lined skink)
Sceloporus undulatus hyacinthinus (Northern Fence Lizard)
