Well, that sucks about MDW, but very good about preserving some south GA habitat.
Fyre, you'll make it man! Even if you can make it as far as NC, I could take ya the rest of the way

Ok, General Coffee State Park is an 8 hour drive for me, so if we're planning on showing up there Friday night (Memorial day is on the 26th, Monday, right?), I will need to pencil in at least 1/2 a day of vacation for the 23rd to ensure I get there on time.
Someone mentioned the caravanning idea, which I like, but that means we need to know some plans and meeting places. I could get to Julius' place with my eyes closed now, but I doubt I could find someone else's place without directions.
Anyway, it will also take me 8 hours to get back home, so I'd need to caravan with someone that was heading for home decently early on that Monday.
Who's in, who's out and what's the general plan?
I assume the Atlanta people would just leave after work on Friday and get there about 7pm Friday night?

Ok, believe it or not, I am allowed to go
But I didn't tell her Lori might come!
So all I need to know is where to go from here. It would most likely be easier to go to Brett's house for me, and then to the campsite from there.
I am in the Philly area, so I am looking at a 13-15 hour drive.
I will also be bringing at least two of my sons along.
We have our own gear (1 tent for me & 1 tent for them, they snore!)
So you can count me in!
I am so looking forward to metting everyone in person and catching some snakes too.

I am totally bummed that BWSmith will not be able to go Mem Wkend...I really had my heart set on seeing him go down those gopher tort holes
-Can we still "drop his name" to the park officials @ Gen Coffee and get preferential treatment? Or will mentioning him get us in more trouble than we need?

Bummer about BW and 0.1 being out...does this mean I have to try to remember how to get to the road cruising ground? And assuming we find it, how to get back?
I think Nessa changed her mind, which means our son is coming as well, so my tent and car are officially full...but I'll be happy to try and lead the caravan...
Wow...this thing is starting to blow up! Looks like I'm making a lot of pancakes come Sunday morning...

I have kids, but no teens!! Not quite sure on if they will join my wife and I on this trip, though......maybe a GOOD time to take a break!!
Who is going to stay the whole weekend? Someone said General Coffee State Park, is that where we are going? How much is it per night? Can someone take charge of this trip and get some of us details?!?!

I'm still not sure if I'm going to make the trip or not. If I do, I will be staying over at Brett's a day or two before the camping trip and of course, Terri will be along if we go. Sounds like a good bit of people are going to be up there. Never a bad time to get together and meet all the folks from over "yonder." And who said I was a Southern?

I don't know how to approach this issue tactifully, but I'll try.
The Kids
I have one, so I know the inherent responsibilities (different, depending on age) when they are present. However, mine will not be along, so I'll probably "loosen up" a bit when the herping is done and beer is being drank around the fire. I have quite a sailor mouth after 8 beer or so.
Anyway, I'm willing to do my best to not be a bad influence, but I WILL be drinking and most likely get completely trashed at least one night. I might, no, WILL be cursing if I get that tanked. I might say or reference things that you might not be comfortable with your young teens or pre-teens hearing and espically Dillon (pre school).
Also, by the sounds of it, we're going to have a whopping load of people and many campsites.
Does anyone have any reasonable solutions to this possible problem? I don't want to be known as the bad influence dude, but this is also a vacation for me (and the other non kid toting people) too.
Perhaps if we had campsites 1-2-3, we could try and tent the bulk of the kids at site 1, and the single guy cursers at campsite 3 or something? That way when it's 10pm, most of the tender eared children will be in bed, and far away from the drunken rowdies
I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad about bringing their kids or anything, I love kids. I just know myself and what I'm like after drinking some.

J-you are CRACKING me up! Your total honesty about your behavior has me ROTFLMAO...and it has inspired me to tell it like it is as well.
I have no kids, so you can bring your "sailor" mouth and match it against my "soldier" mouth! There are one or two subjects that I just cannot abide by listening to but I am sure with as diverse of a crew that is coming, we can avoid subjects that are taboo to others.
I am sure we can arrange an "adult" area so we won't make anyones kid's ears bleed as we swap b-s stories and such.
And how about a "kids" area? They may enjoy being around a campfire telling ghost stories to one another without adults hovering over them...Then we can sneak up on them and scare the be-jeezus outta them!
I think the bottom line here is this....we are all responsible for those we bring along with us, be it spouses or children. We should be able to have a blast as long as each takes care of their own responsibilities.
