Heat alone doesn't cause scalerot..
It's in conjunction with bacterias from lack of timely spot cleaning, urates/poop or from not using entirely new substrate for regular cleanings.
The betadine alone will do the trick for it, as it is an antibacterial, but merely rubbing it on sometimes isn't as affective as a soak in a betadine-water solution.
Use water that is in the heat range for the snake (yes, measure with a thermometer) and mix enough betadine in to look like weak tea.
Then let the snake soak at least 10 minutes in the solution, so it will work it under the scales. ( at least once a day, twice if possible- I also soak until the next shed, determine the healing process and assess further soaks from there)
Then blot it dry and replace in the cage.
I have seen basically no difference if using either neosporin type cream vs betadine or other antibacterials if they are just wiped on. The key is to get the medication under each and every scale, so soaking in a solution, does get every scale with less stress on both the animal and the keeper.
As for preroxide.. I only use it to clean my ears out as it can cause some tissue damage which goes against the healing process. The red you see is actually blood, so there is exposed tissues involved.
The red will also turn to a rusty color as the blood dries, the scales involved will also remain quite ugly and chipped away looking until the next shed or two after the healing is done.
If it doesn't improve or gets worse, then a vet is deffinately required as the infection may have gone further towards a systematic iinfection and internal antibiotics will be needed to prevent eventual death.
