someone with more experience can tell you more, but until they do, i will tell you that i think that is too high, especially in that size tank. and i don't think you said what kind of python it was.

Welcome to RTB!
Yes, 104 is way too hot. Pythons are mostly nocturnal, so a light cycle isn't really necessary. In such a small enclosure you can get rid of the lamp.
What heat pad are you using?
Do you have it on a rheostat?
and most importantly: What type of python?

So you saying when it gets this hot it doesnt even need the lamp at all? How about the heat pad?
I shut the lamp off for now

if the heat pad is keeping the temp right, then that is all you need. a 100 watt bulb is too hot for a 10 gal unless you have a lizard that needs a whole lotta heat, and maybe too hot even then.

they have smaller wattage bulbs like that at most petstores. and you can get nighttime ones, which will be better for the snake. i order my bulbs from thatpetplace.com, if you buy a few you really come out cheaper.

The snake doesn't need it to be any warmer than 90 degrees one inch above the substrate. You don't want the substrate to get too hot either as it WILL burn him. Those heat mats can get quite warm. Make sure you measure the temps of the air and the surface. The heat pad is required to help digestion (belly heat). But the lamp for actual light isn't really needed if there is ambient light in the room. The only time you would need the extra heat of a bulb is if the room temp is so low that you can't get the temps up in the enclosure without it. But then I would suggest a smaller wattage bulb.... and no need for a 'reptile' bulb from a petstore. Grab a box of cheap 40 or 60 watt light bulbs from WalMart

I keep my BP's at 90-92 on the warm side, and no lower than 82 on the cool side, and they do fine. You need to lose the light, BP's don't need it, and it tends to dry them out. Also, a rubbermaid tote makes a MUCH better home for ball pythons than does a glass tank.
