Hog Island or RTB?
What are the differences between these two boas?
Is a Hog Island a good semi-newb first snake?
Thank you

The reason I ask is because I have the oppurtunity to get a Hogg Island Boa from a a guy selling where I live. He wants $125 and they are about 1.5 feet long. He will also throw in a 20gal long tank and screen cover.

sounds like a good price if it's healthy. just make sure you do the research to take proper care of it if you decide to get it. hoggs are beautiful boas.

personally, I'd tell you to get a dumeril's boa... they're prettier than RTB's and Hoggs IMHO.

Well, like David said, Hoggs and Colombians are the same species. So, their care is pretty much identical. While both are great snakes, I personally think Hoggs are better for beginners because they do not get as large as Colombians. Therefore, they would be easier to handle. But of course, if you can manage to house an adult Colombian, they are still a good choice.

That price for a Hogg is incredible! You may want to do some research on them before buying because you may be looking at a Hogg X Colombian cross instead of a tru Hogg. Hoggs typically run in the $175 - $200 range. They are one of my favorites and like everyone said stay smaller than the Col ones do. I have found that Hoggs do tend to be more "hissy" than the Colombians, but it is always bluffing. None of mine have ever lunged or struck.
