Totes...

When you guys use totes for temporary enclosures for smaller snakes, do you make any kind of air holes or do they get sufficient ventilation? I got the kind with the locking sides, but the middle isn't all that tight... Also don't have anything in it yet. Just trying to get everything figured out ahead of time.

Ive never really used totes before, but I would recomend maybe drilling some air holes in the lid or something.

Best to drill the holes around the top edge on the sides. Lose less humidity and heat that way. I keep BP's in rubbermaids permanently, they do much better than in tanks

Tote Tip!

While drilling the totes, use a sharp bit, high speed, but very little pressure.
Too hard of a push can crack a tote up pretty good.

It's also a good idea to test the tote so you can achieve the conditions wanted for the speciaes at hand before putting the animal(s) in.
You can fine tune it better and may not need as many holes drilled as you think

I've cracked too many totes trying to drill holes. For me using a small pencil type solder iron to melt holes air holes works well. The material melted to make the hole, flows around the hole helping to make the hole area stronger as opposed to drilling which removes material making the hole area weak. Just make sure you do the melting outside or in a very well ventilated area.
