how do u tell a snakes age
This may seem like a dumb question to most but i am sort of new to this
and still learning.
My question is, what is the easiest or most used way or ways to judge a snakes age. Im in the prosess of buying a childrens python, an adult male for this years breeding but im not too sure it is a 2-3 year old specimen like the owner says.
I just want to make sure so i dont waste my money, any help on this matter would be of great help.
Regards Matty

You can't really tell. Sorry, but if they power fed an animal, they could tell you it was an older individual but only be half that age in reality. The only way to know for sure is if you get your animals from a 100% reliable source.

There is a pretty dependable method that I use to determine age, easy to use and remember also.
Measure the length in inches, the diameter of the head and belly in millimeters, multiply each whole number by pie, add 16, determine the tangent of the square root of that figure then convert to ounces if above 10 and gallons if below 6.
Take that number and divide by X and add on the decimal values from the first set of measurements then mutiply by the gradient factor of their tanks temperature divided by humidity percentage.
X = how many shots you had on yor 21st birthday.
Cutting them in half and counting the rings will not apply here as it isn't a tree boa.
Or just get it from a darn reliable source

Would that be the temperature and humidity of the tank you are keeping them in now or of the tanks they were kept in prior to obtaining? :P
Really eddie, you do need to be a bit more specific.

AnAcOnDaMaN, you tell the age of a tree by cutting it down and counting the rings (which in a way, defeats the purpose....) It was a pun.
