Housing together?
I just got two dums that are both a little under 2 feet long, less than a year old. They are unrelated m/f and I do plan on breeding them in a few years. I know that if I do house them together I need to feed seperately, and I know that if one gets sick, more likely to transmit to the other, mites included. The fact that they were living together with the breeder might make a difference... So, what do all of you think?

Dumeril's are known for being cannibalistic. Do not fall victim to it as many other people have. Keep them seperated until breeding time.

You yourself listed a number of reason what can happen if they are kept together. keep them in seperate cages.

Hmm... that was a pretty convincing post you linked me to, Wrasse. Thanks a bundle. Although that was a different sub, you guys have convinced me (like I knew you would!). Now, though, you have me worried about them being shipped together! Also... I am getting another nice cage in about a week... should I chance them together until then or make other arrangements? It will probably only be a few days together by the time they get shipped and everything. Thanks for all the info guys... that's why I posted it!

if you can delay the shipment i would. no sense in taking a chance. and it might cut down on the stress if they can be shipped and immidetly placed in there new home, instead of being put in one cage for a while, then put in another cage a few days later.

Another problem with housing snakes that will wish to eventually reproduce, is that snakes that are kept with one another will often get so used to their cagemates that any reproductive instinct is stiffled by being in the same small space 24/7.
The animals almost seem to like to "Find" each other. But im not saying they WONT breed that way, you just have a higher chance of that being a problem if you raise a pair together.
