My first snake bite
So I have a rainbow boa who looked like it was going to shed a few days ago. I left her alone to shed and today I pulled her out Because she didn't look blue anymore. Even the eyes seemed to clear, But when I got her out I heard a almost gurgling sound. My girlfriend thought it was a hiss, but I automaticly asumed resperitory problems! I got her body close to my ear Didn't hear anything And then bam she bit my forehead! I've had her awhile and she's always pleasant. Do they really hate being messed with at these times? Was that a hiss? This bite was totally my fault, huh?

If she hasn't shed yet, then it could have been a hiss, or loose skin in her nostrils. And no, soem snakes don't like to be messed with when in shed. I agree with Louise, tho, must suck to get bitten on the forehead!

I almost had the same thing happen to me while looking closely at my baby Suri. No hiss, no "S" neck, just strike. But missed my head and went for the next best thing, the hand that was holding her.
The blue stage usually goes away before a shed at my house.
So, technically your girl was still in shed and a little cranky!
Live and learn.... we all do.
Good luck!

I got tagged on the end of my nose by a baby Hog Island boa once! It was more of a surprise than anything else. Just when you least expect it!!! Anyway, welcome to RTB.NET!!!

It was just enough to break the skin. Guess I'll know next time.

Several years ago, a (now) well-known breeder that I won't name was unpacking a shipment for the store he worked at. One of the snakes being unpacked was an exceptionally large female ball python. As soon as he unbagged her, she tagged him on his cheek and drew a fair amount of blood. His only reaction was that he couldn't believe a ball python bit him.
