Hi everyone, I'm new to this game!! I just got my first RTB and I've been getting all kinds of different caresheets.
What I really need to know is a good feeding schedule Mr Wiggley is now a month old. Also I'd like to hear your views on stunting his growth.
How's it done and is it bad for my buddy???

Personally I wouldn't do it. Why would you want to? I don't know what it does for the animals health but it couldn't be good.

Nah stunting growth would be a bad thing!!! You'll end up with a snake with immune problem's and succeptiable to disease! When you say growth stunting 2 name's come to mind Gary Coleman and Emmuanel Lewis, and look at the health problem's these 2 have!!!!

First of all here is our care sheet on feeding Feeding Second I'm guessing you either don't want the snake you have to reach full size, which in that case you shouldn't have gotten it or you can't properly house it when it's full grown. Don't try to stunt it's growth all you will do is make it underfed and sick and it will probably have a bad temper because it is always hungy. Also you can't stunt it's growth by keeping it in a small cage, it will out grow it. If I am jumping the gun sorry but this seems to be the direction you are going.

if you ar concerned of the size your snake will get why in gods name did you get it and not get like a milk snake or something. that is nothing but cruel to the animal. How would you like if you parents stunted you growth. If you do not want a big snake do not buy a big snake duh

how would you of liked it, if ur parents put you in a box as u were growing up, so ur bones couldnt develop correctly...and they underfed you. so when u emerged from the box at the age of 18...you were 3 feet tall, with arms that were longer then your body...it wouldnt be fair that ud look like a midget gorilla......just as its not fair to the poor snake ur going to be underfeeding...and im sure his attitude towards you will turn to crap, so ull prolly end up getting rid of him anyways..... its not nice to alter things that werent meant to be changed...if the snake wants to grow to 10 feet...let it, or get a new pet, and give up ur redtailboa now and let someone who wants the responsibility of raising a large boid.

Did your parents keep you in a closet and feed you bread and water as a child? When You Buy an Animal your supposed to want the best for it. Now listen YOU PAID MONEY FOR AN ANIMAL, WHY WOULD YOU NOT WANT THE BEST FOR IT. IF YOUR WORRIED ABOUT THE SIZE GET A RINGNECK SNAKE THEY ARE VERY HANDLEABLE AND GIVE ME THE RTB!!! This is the perfect example of the need of a permit system to buy animals!

Best way to stunt his growth is to keep him in a pickle jar full of pickle juice. Dead snakes don't grow. Healthy snakes do. Noone here promotes anything but what is the healthiest for any snake and any suggestion otherwise will surely set off a chain of heart felt explosive posts. If you want a small snake...buy a snake that stays small like anyone else with more than one brain cell would do.

WOW..Your first post ever on RTB and you have managed to hit one of the few raw nerves we all have here also. I agree with what all have said here in relation to "underfeeding" your snake also. Not only what they have said but there is such a thing as animal cruelty ya know.
At a month of age in order to propwerly be feeding your snake you should be feeding every 7 days and offering a rodent the size equivalent to the snake's girth at it's widest point. Mouse fuzzy, hopper or even rat pup comes to mind for example.

Well, I didn't post on this because I thought I would be a little harsh. As for power feeding I am strongly against it. It carries a lot of risks when done and should only be done by those they are experienced doing it. I would only power feed a snake when it has been off feed for a good bit of time and no other solutions worked. Power feeding would be the last thing on my mind. Just my $.02

sorry but could anybody define "power feeding" I'm kinda confused from the last post. I s based on frequency of feeding? letting the snake gorge itself or physcially forcing a snake to eat something? confused
