can you tell me exactly the best temp for my rtb. I have a 20 long tank screened in top 3 digital temps a daytime basking light on one side and a uvb flor. in the middle at night i use a red incondecent light. i have a large water dish on the hot side and a hide on the cool side with indoor outdoor carpet for the substrate and a heating pad under the tank on the hot side. my daytime temp is around 89-90 on the hot and 76-77 on cool at night i drop it about 4 degres does this sound like a good set up would appreciate any advise. Sounds close, but your Daytime high side needs to come down a few degrees, while your low side needs to come up a few!
85 - 88 degrees on the hot side and from 78 - 81 on the cool side will work good for it, keeping the drops at night.
Where are your sensors for the thermometers? Near the top, middle or near the bottom of the tank?
Another thing you can do is add a hide on the warm side, so it can have a choice on where to go and feel safe.

the sensors are about one inch from the bottome 0ne on each end and one in the middle
that is a good idea putting a hide on the warm side. the water dish is in the middle is that good or should it be on hot side.

NOPE It is possible to regulate your temps ..just gotta figure out what ya need to do is all First off. What exactly are you using in that basking light for a bulb ? I'd start with that myself. Could be that you have too much heat being emitted from it for the size of the cage that's doing the high end temps too high possibly. Also are the loight and the uth on the same side of the cage too? They should be btw anyway...I would work on lowering the high end before worrying about the low end atm also. Your low end is not way off anyway.....I keep my low at 78 degrees here myself...so 77 is not a big deal.
Exactly how do you drop the temps at nite anyway?

Leave your UTh on all the time, that will help with the night temps staying up.

OK..What I menat was EXACTLY what is the bulb in that basking light ? ie.. the brand, wattage etc... It is possible that your light is too strong for this size cage and that's why your temps are so high on the hot end. I usually use the regular household bulbs like a 40 or 60 watt in the dome for added heat if I need to in a 20l. Snake's dont need the uvb lighting like your giving off in that bulb you have.. Regular bulbs are also MUCH cheaper then them basking bulbs. Why spend it if it's not needed ?

Regulating temps is a piece of cake. Buy a thermostat (dimmerstat for bulb, pulse for heat pad).
See, easy.

Well, if you need something to regulate and keep your temperatures right, you could go with a Thermostat. That way you can set say 87 degrees and it will manage 87 degrees.

YUP..That is a possibility also. He didn't mention having one and it is possible to regulate without one soo I went that route
