Is scale rot something you can feel on the snakes scales when its just starting? Or does it just feel like just another scale?

its actually usually something you can see.
scales that have necrotic spots on them, or scales that seem to be literally "rotting" away.

Sometimes they get a rough, or flaky feel to them, but that varies from species to species.
