What about vitamins?

Hi,

I was wondering what you all thought about vitamins or supplements. Also wondering about any other item like that such as first aid for snakes.

I have a RTB. Just want her to be as healthy as can be.

thanks,

James

I just feed mine plain old thawed rats from Rodentpro.com. I really have no first aid on hand at my place other than myself Anytime my snakes have major problems I take them to the vet. FInding a good reptile vet is very important!

If you feed your boa f/t rats that have themselves been fed a good quality rodent feed then I don't believe you need to bother with supplemental vitamins. They get all they need just in that one, furry package! I've never used vitamins for my boas and they are all healthy animals. As far as first aid, I keep some Neosporin handy in the event of a minor cut or scrape. Much beyond that though they go to a qualified herp veterinarian.

Welcome to Redtailboa James!!!

Neosporin (without pain reliever!!) for small cuts, peroxide or original Listerine (slightly diluted) for mouth rot, betadine (heavily diluted) for scale rot or cuts, rubbing alcohol for sterilization, Pedialite for dehydration, cotton swabs, cotton balls, Purel hand sanitizer

For anti-biotics, de-wormers, or topical anti-biotic (silvadine) you will need to see a vet.

Should you ever need help using any of this stuff, let us know, but we hope you never need to.

So long as the rodents are fed a quality diet, I see no need for supplements. Bear in mind also, that when it comes to vitamins, too much is just as bad as not enough.
