Alternative Food
i've two young boas and have just moved to be with my girlfriend. I packed up my few belongings, cast aside my loverly MR2 Turbo (i gave it to my mum and took her nasty vauxhall estate) put my vivs in the back, my snakes and lizard in carryboxes turned the heating up to number ten and headed off into the moonlight....
just one problem. i now live on an island. reptiles are not favoured pets.
so much so they have to be registered.
mine haven't been registered cos i'm scared they'll take them away.
pet shops don't sell food for my lovelies!
i can now get crickets by post but what can i feed my boas instead of mice? anything? nothing?
do i have to cut my fingers and toes off to keep them sustained?
i can get mice... i have two left in the freezer... but i have to travel by boat and take up a whole day to get them... and it's very expensive... it'd be great to feed them mice and other stuff so i dont have to make the trip so often...
any ideas?
*apologies for rambling thread*

shipping may be expensive ,so I would recommend buying as many as your ice box can handle so you dont have to order too frequently.
and...
Good luck!

My little boa likes to eat anoles! Maybe the herpephobics will let you deplete the reptle population and feed anoles! Do you have finches over in the U.K.? Just keep an eye out for mites. I also feed peeps (baby chickens), salamanders, non-toxic frogs... or you could buy a Male and female rat and have your own. I did that with the purchase of my last boid, after yo get so many...it becomes expensive. Whatever you decide just make sure it is from a lab.

frogs! ah... there's lots of frogs around here!
i can foresee the frog population dropping some considerable amount in the near future...
so... they don't eat meat then? just like,.... i dunno.. any old meat what you might buy and proffer them... lets say... chicken (it's on offer down at tesco)
the last time i bought mice i had to buy 5 packs of frozen swede and carrots (they was cheap) to keep the buggerisers frozen till i got back home.
i should have got more than 20...
hey how much is everyone paying for mice? mine were 79pence each.. that's about a dollar to you pan atlantic perriguins....
that's alot isnt it?

Don't listen to Snakeaddiction on using wild caught food, or even petshop frogs/birds. RTB's should be on a diet of quality frozen thawed mice and rats.

Feeding anoles to a boa? Or frogs? EEK!! Talk about parasite city let alone the fact they shouldn't be eating them in the first place....
hmmmm, Are you anywhere near thomasito by chance? If so, he may be able to give you a suggestion or two.

If its rodents you need, breeding may be the best thing you can do to have a regular supply. Wild-caught food can be quite risky. I think chicks, if your boas will take them, may be a good idea. I'm sure you can find chickens there. It really depends on what boas you have...
