I have fed my corn snake many times in the first stages of shed and he scarfed as usual.

I am still learning though.

Don't know if you should or not -- I'll leave that up to the "experts".

But I do know that my BP will NOT eat in shed, neither will my cornsnake, BUT
my BCI has twice, although smaller meals than her normal...

In fact, when I first got her, she shed in her feeding tub, between rats!!!!!!!!!

snakes matabolisms slow when they are in shed. because they stay in hiding mostly in the wild when their eyecaps cloud over (because they can see even worse than normal) they usually don't hunt during this time. over time their matabolisms adapted to the non eating time, so no, in my opinion you don't need to feed while shedding. -Juggalo

It all depends on the snake. I have one that eats when in shed and some that wont even think about rats until after the shed is done. It wont hurt to let your snake wait until after it sheds, that way you wont chance wasting the rat. But it's up to you if you want to try it or not and see what yours will do.

Yah....some do...some don't...My burms never pass on a meal for any reason whatsoever...however...their aim gets really bad when in blue so I suggest the use of tongs. I have been tagged a few times by very gentle burms (in blue) lunging after a rat I was holding by the tail. Tiki, the GTP I got from Barry awhile back, just shed. It is really hard to tell when he is about to shed because his eye color doesn't change much...He gets hissy and snappy and will take anything you offer him just for the thrill of biting something....but he won't eat when in shed. He tosses any unwanted meals into his waterbowl and goes back to sleep.
