Refreezing thawed rats? Hmmmm..
I know I've seen this somewhere on the site before but I couldn't find it in search here or on Google.. I just thawed out 3 large mice (my dealer is out of rats.. grrr) and my blood refuses to take them. I thawed them out in a bag in hot water.. I'm pretty sure the answer is no but I just want to double check.. Can I refreeze or somehow keep the mice fresh for a day or two? I hate to waste them because I know he's hungry, he's just being stubborn! Thanks guys

Re: Refreezing thawed rats? Hmmmm..
Yopu could do a search for refreezing meat. I don't think it's safe for human consumption. I wouldn't eat them refrozen and thawed twice, so I wouldn't try them on my snakes.

Re: Refreezing thawed rats? Hmmmm..
That's a NO from me too....the bacteria multiply esp. when you warmed them up using hot water, and the texture will be mush also if frozen/re-used...neither you or your snake would be happy...
In the future you should thaw in cold water...then when soft, put one only in warm water & offer when it's ready? If your snake takes it, warm the next...? (it's still better & safer to not re-freeze, but if they were real cold yet I might do it!?)
(I was taught thawing in warm or hot water is a no-no, period. The outside starts to spoil before the inside thaws & catches up.... )
