In all of my reaserch I still can not find a reason why not to use sand...
Is there?
Its not like cat litter....
It contains no dust If washed properly...Right?
one of my display cages would look awsome if I used white sand...
and I think that It would be relatively easy to clean.
all exept for that :
Sand will not contain humidity
If anyone has some info it would be cool...
Ps. I am not curently using sand or have ever had. Its just a thought.
thanx.

Some snakes can handle sand ok, but others are not going to do good on it at all.
Sand can get under the scales and rub holes in their skin and cause all kinds of problems, such as infections of all kinds, down to turning it into a beast to hold due to rawness of the underlying tissues.
It's best to research individual species and see if they are able to deal with certain subtrates before using them , such as you have done here by asking first!

I don't at all mean to underplay the importance of researching the proper husbandry for your particular breed, but as far as substrate, a little common sense comes in handy. Desert species are far more likely to be tolerant of sand as a substrate, as opposed to jungle or arboreal species. First use good judgement, then research to double check

Like they have said already. It all depends on the species of snake. Sand is definatle not suitable for most snakes.
What kind of snake do you have?(or thinking about getting)

I learnt recently that if you are going to use sand
youv'e got to remove the animal for feeding.Your snake
can cop a big gob full if he/she miss-strikes.I've changed to
woodchip & remove the snake for feeds now!

Lori wishes Barrin would use spell-check when doing the signature hehe BTW That should be spelled "BRAKE"..Ya think ???
Anyway...
As for the snakes that you keep and using sand as a substrate:
<TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Quote:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><BLOCKQUOTE>Ive got a 6 1/2ft jpc, 5month old call king,
and a royal (ball).
</BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>
The royal..forget it ! the sand would get into those lil pits it has and cause more problems than ya want to deal with.
jpc...umm ya mean jcp possibly ?....same as the royal....
The cali king....I keep mine on a 50/50 mix of sand and florest bedding. ALL my kings actually are like this. I have never had a problem from doing such either.

HAHA Lori! I'm suprised Jules picked up on the whole "conjunction" thing before you!
I've never liked carpet much. it holds about no humidity, your herps can't borow if they want to, and it holds in bacteria that could cause health problems. thats just me though, everybody has different opinions -Juggalo

I thought Barrin might be reffering to the fact he can't go
past one without "break"ing down...
"Gotta have it....I know I don't have the dough..but,but
I...I..just gotta get it ,I'll be good for it next week." j/k
Hey Barrin I'll see what I can do about getting you a couple
of those stickers!
