baby boa in water
Well I just got my new baby 2month old boa yesterday and he has spending a lot of time in the water bowl. I immediatley thought mites but I have checked him like 20 times up and down. He doesn't have any but I don't know what this means he's healthy any knowledge would help.

Re: baby boa in water
Cage too hot and trying to cool down? Not enough humidity? What better way to spend summer than hanging out in the pool?

Not to cast doubt, but how are you measuring the temps? Are you shooting them with a temp gun? If not, do you have an indoor/outdoor thermometer at floor level at each end of the enclosure?
Not doubting you, just making sure we're getting accurate temp readings.

Re: baby boa in water
Was this snake shipped to you, like from out of state? Maybe she was packed up for a couple days in transit without water and is just trying to rehydrate? I hope...?
Any medications given to her before you got her? (that could have potentially had a dehydrating effect?) Like Flagyl or Panacur...?
Could be nothing at all, or mites you can't see, so just be vigilant (I know you will be!) and congrats on the new little one!

...And on a side-note, oft-times this behavior is associated with an underlying issue, but sometimes Boas do the darnedest things.

THat's ridiculous.... soaking alot is not a basis for mite treatment...... Mites are very easy to see.....
Some snakes like to soak,...... should we go dipping them in Nix every time we see them in the water......
It's kind of like when I hear about people soaking their boa in warm water because it hasnt pooped in a week...... Just let them be boas... there isnt always a propblem to fix
