More on Shipping Snakes
Thre Questions:
1- if you had to chose between a 4 day cross country drive with two adult snakes from NY to LA vs. shipping the snakes and flying to meet them out there, in August . . . which do you think is safer?
2- if shipping is a reasonable option (I really don't know if it is - August is hot), does anyone happen to know anybody in the NYC region who has shipped snakes before and would want to help me package them (happy to compensate however - within reason!). if not, i'm sure i can figure it out (there are plenty of tutorials online and you guys here), but since i've never done i want to make sure they are safe etc . . .
3- are there any passenger airlines that allow snakes to ship as cargo anymore?

Re: More on Shipping Snakes
As long a I had a dependable car, didn't plan to do any sightseeing (or other unnecessary stopping) and had enough room, I would take them with me.

I agree with John, but I would add this. When stopping to eat, toilet, etc., you must be mindful of the temperature in the car, and may need to run the A/C with someone in the vehicle at all times. It can get very hot in a parked car very quickly. Even a short time at excessive heat can cause permanent damage or death.

Re: More on Shipping Snakes
I would think the airline companies wouldn't be too keen on snakes on a plane....I'd drive if you don't mind it, but definitely be mindful of stops and plan for emergencies. There was a thread a few weeks back on that topic. IMO there are a lot of variables either way but I would chose the route that allows you to be more in control of those variables. Also, shipping reptiles has become more and more difficult these days.

Re: More on Shipping Snakes
I drove from northern California to central Florida in January. I'd MUCH rather drive with them and know that they are safe WITH me than ship them and chance them being left some place, or any other issues.

I had some heat pads on thermostats and left them on (the adapter stayed on when the van was off luckily) and made sure they had heat. this is SO important!!!!
