Re: got mites :(
I use the nix solution. get some nix lice treatment and a gallon of distilled water. mix them until throughly mixed. spray the snake and the cage very very well. remove water for 24hrs. remove bedding and anything else in the cage. re-spray in one week.
has worked for me

You can use the repel with paper substrate, yes.

Re: got mites :(
I recently picked up several snakes and found a few mites. I was able to get rid of them by doing the following:
1. Remove everything from cage
2. Spray inside of cage with RID lice spray
3. Spray snakes with Reptile Relief and let sit for 15 minutes
4. Soak snakes for 30 minutes in a container with water
5. Clean all cage items, water bowl and hides with chlorhexadine
6. Replace aspen substrate with paper
7. After all fumes have cleared you can reintroduce your animal to their enclosure
This was a lot of work but I have not seen a mite since!

Re: got mites :(
I have a question just about putting the paper in. I have a heating pad underneath the cage that I fear will burn the snake through just paper. What about using a towel?

If you are using a heatpad you should be using a thermostat as well to control the temperature safely, if you haven't invested in one yet, I would do so now. Heatpads can overheat quickly and catch fire, melting the plastic and you could lose your animals.

Re: got mites :(
Huh, I've been using the heat pads that don't have any sort of settings for almost 10 years now without any problems. Maybe I'm just lucky. I'll have to look into the controlled ones so I can finish off my mite issue.

Re: got mites :(
Okay i have found this is the best treat ment yet for me.
First take everthing out of the cage and soak in very hot water
2nd Put your snake in a bath of water.
3rd Get something to mix in and put dawn dish soap in with water and the i dump a bottle of mite off from zoo med into the bucket mix it up and get a rag and clean the inside of the cage with the mix then dry it off.
4th get another bottle of mite off and spray all the cage and the snake.
5th put paper towls for the substrate and put a soaking water dish inside change the water everyday and u will see dead mites in the water after the snake has been soaking it has worked for 3 of my snakes i treat and killed in less than 3 days
