I've set up a vivarium for a newly aquired crested gecko using mushroom compost and reptibark. I have an inch and a half layer of the compost down with a small layer of reptibark over top. I planted some philadendron sprouts and put a couple branches to make it look natural.

this is my first attempt at making a vivarium, so I knew there would be problems. tonight i've noticed that i've got mold growing at the base of the branches I've set in the aquarium. Any one have suggestions about how to get rid of the mold? What do you all use as a substrate in vivariums?

wet reptibark molds easily too. Cypress is a good idea. It doesn't seem to mold near as bad and with a little ventilation and light, it may never.

thanks Julius. I think i'm just going to plant the philadendrons in a pot and use some cypress mulch for substrate.
