This is the run down for a little over a week now when I take my nearly six foot bci out of his tank he seems really nervous throwing his head around. Thats only when I have him in the air. When I sit down he settles down. I hold him regularly I don't know what the problem is. Also when I put him back in his tank I touch him and he takes off real fast. Is it because I'm not holding his body right and he thinks he is going to fall. Can someone please let me know what might be going on with my snake. Some boas are uncomfortable when first pulled out of their enclosure or picked up. It usually has to do with feeling 'off-balance' and insecure. I have noticed with mine that if I get their tails wrapped around something rather quickly, they are less prone to thrash around. You must also realize that snakes are not sociable by nature. I have only a couple here that when you touch them as they crawl back into their enclosure, they could care less. The others will scurry in and then try to come back out. I got bit the other night trying to put one back into his enclosure, LOL Why did he bite? Maybe he didn't want to go back in just yet or just didn't like the way I was touching him. Maybe he is getting testy because he has reached breeding age/size.

When are they big/old enough to breed. That might be my snakes prob. He is nearly six feet and about a about a year and a half. What could I wrap his tail around when I'm taking him out. Like a stick or my arm. He barely started acting like this. He's probably realizing how big he's getting and realizing he has a lot more power than he used to. If I start playing with him like every day or every other day will this calm him down? Or do I have to worry about getting bit everytime I take him out.

They can begin breeding at about 18 months old (can, not necessarily should ) So I would guess that is what is going on. He is coming into his own and getting easily aggravated. Just keep handling him, when you pull him out, see if you can place your wrist under his tail. He may wrap around it for security. When you get to the couch, you can reposition him. Good luck with him.

Hello,
I had this issue before with my Redtail. And I just kept handling him daily for short periods, increasing the time held every other day by like a couple minutes. Now that hes older I take him out with a snake hook "Gently" and place him on a blanket on the carpet for a few secs. Then I pic him up slowly, that solved my head thrashing problem. There was only on incidnet where he nailed me good for picking him up. Thats when I placed my hand inside his hide :big D'oh" ans tried to pul him out gently, when his head cleared, he swang around and..well..owwie other than that incident he has been a baby doll. gl man..he/she will eventually come to par
