Sevindust comes in 2 strengths: 5% and 10%. It is sold at garden centers everywhere. (Lowes and Home Depot for sure) The 10% formula is marketed to dust fruit trees and gardens with while the 5% formula is marketed more towards dusting dogs and kennels for ticks and fleas. The makers of this product did not see fit to list it's many other uses but it is safe and very effective for killing reptile
mites. The downside is that it is very messy. But when used correctly it is fool proof. If you have a small collection, it is by far the best way to go in my opinion as there is no chance of harming your collection...however there was a note on a previous thread at least one person here had a slight allergic reaction to it. If you have more than 4 or 5 snakes.....too messy and too expensive to replace all the substrate...proventamite is a better way to go.
Sawyer's Tick Spray IS Proventamite...Same exact ingredients and even the same patent number. I think Brian is avoiding reprocussions from the marketers of proventamite.....but I don't really care. Sue me. The active ingredient is .5% Permetherin. The other 99.5% is all inert ingredient. Sooo It doesn't take a real chemist to duplicate this formula. There are other products on the market that have this same formula too. But I am fairly sure that Sawyer and Proventamite are buying from the same supplier and putting their own labels. So you decide...4 bucks for sawyers or 20 bucks for proventamite? I can't find the sawyers sold alone here in my area...All I can find are these kits with 2 other types of repelants included but at 9 bucks for the package...that's still less than half price and the other repelants came in pretty handy while herping south georgia. I am a large target for gnats and mosquitos.
