Okay, here's my question. One of my friends is moving from California to Ohio. She's thinking of flying rather than driving cross country. She's planning on moving in about 2 to 3 weeks. She is planning on moving her two red tailed boas with her. The question is, what is the best way to ship them? What are the rules/special considerations about doing this? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

If she plans on being at her new residence within 12 hours she should use 1 day shipping/overnight. If you know the weight and size of the container she could calculate the price at http://wwwapps.ups.com/QCCWebApp/req...iso_country=US
Or she could call the flight service that she is using and see if there is any way to have them flown over in baggage, but if she does she should make sure they have a heat pad, can breath well, and are well padded, since these compartments can get cool.
Don't know if i helped, but heres something to start with.

Yep, most places I have seen that ship do so with UPS. But if she is going to be at the airport anyways, she can have them shipped air freight. She will need heat packs (or cold if going south).
The problem is the shipping provider does not have a guarante of live arrival. So she should cross her fingers. She should not ship if any health problems arise, or they refuse to eat for weeks prior to shipping. Shipping will stress them greatly so they should be fat and in perfect health.

UPS will not take anything that is live. The post office does, but has limitations(No Snakes)
Airborn Express does snakes. I don't think Fed Ex will do snakes either. just FYI not as easy as just overnighting them.

All three of the major carriers - UPS, Fedex and Airborne Express specifically will not ship snakes according to their company rules, but it depends on your local office. Some simply don't care. Of course, they don't and won't guarantee live arrival at all. I'm absolutely sure we've all seen packages dropped off from UPS looking like they went through WW3. Quite often they will also make exceptions for people with business accounts, which is why sometimes you see many breeders using them. All you do is package it at home, wrap it up nicely and the guy comes and takes it, no questions asked. USPS, it is simply illegal to ship snakes, though they did tell me they have no problem with turtles or lizards. They still don't guarantee climate control or live arrival either. Using an air carrier is definitely the safer way to go. They legally ship live animals, they know how to deal with animal shipments and are generally good about climate control, and do guarantee live arrival. Of course, they're more expensive.

May be that Airborn Express may vary from office to office. You are right they will not guarauntee live delivery. I have delt with a few Airborn offices already that ship snakes. But services like Delta Dash is the real way to go. USPS website has a detailed description for shipping live animals.
