OK I'm back this RTB of mine is still not eating. She? is in a 55 gal tank. Temps are between 80-90 range they some times fall a little lower 75 lowest and 93 highest that is not often just when windows are open or something uncontrolable on MY part happens. I've been feeding p/k or f/t rats she will not take f/t She is about 40 inches long and I'm guessing 2yrs old. She has taken p/k rats befor but now i't been like 3 1/2 weeks since she ate and she is not interested. If someone could maybe tell me what I'm doing wrong I've tried leaving her with rat in feed tank covered with heat pad under without heat pad. in her tank covered light on and off. I dunno what to do she shed less than 1 month ago and has not eaten since. she spends most of her time hiding under paper in tank I see her come out at night to climb drink and soak but it's usually around 2 or 3 am. I don't thimk that there is anymore to tell thanx jonny

Hey jonny how are you offering the p/k f/t and how long are you leaving the rat with the snake. Do you feed in a tote or in the tank. Have you changed the time you regularly feed. The best thing that I see works is feed in the night and place the snake and the rat in a feeder tote. Leave it in the for a few hours and if still nothing try in a week or so don't try to force the snake to eat to much. It will stress the snake out. You shouldn't worry to much about him not eating in the last 3 weeks sometimes snakes go for months without eating. If you see a drastic weight change then a vet visit might be the best thing. Also I don't think your rtb is 2 years old and only 40 inches. My rtb is barely a year and is just about 4 1/2 feet long. Thats just my .02 I'm sure someone else will come along to add something.

I've tried feeding at night day and I usually leave snake alone for atleast an hour befor I even peek in the tank which is on floor covered on the other 5 sides I'm almost certain that she's almost 2 years old. I've had her for 1 yr and 6 months and I bought her from a guy that got her from petstore and he had her for like 2 months atleast she might be a little older actually. I am worried about her weight and her size. though she seems healthy and active. She just doesn't like rats I might try to go back to mice and feed 3-4 at a time the petstore round here does not carry rat pups or hoppers. Don't have time or $ to breed them

Have you tried giving her a mouse then following up with a rat while she is still in hunt mode?

You really need to get her temps stable...93 is too hot....90 is even too hot...the hot side temps shouldn't get over 88 and there should always be a cool side in the high 70s to very low 80s for her to retreat into. If she is overheated...this will probably cause her to refuse food. Heavy fluctuation of temps will do the same even if they are within the proper range sometimes.

Tell Holli to give me a call if she needs help and I will do what I can... or if you want that offer is still good to leave the snake with me while you are out.
