I know this sounds silly but its true, I took Adam my male Boa to the vet because he had a runny stool and his skin looks loose. The vet did a stool analyisis and it came back negative. He eats great once a week, he's growing and shedding with no problem, heat and humidity are fine. When he coils up his skin gets all these creases in it, Do you think he's dehydrated? I heard somewhere that you can use pedialyte on mildly dehydrated snakes, Is this true? I'm fairly new to snake keeping, although I have done lots of research I am baffled. My female "Eve" is doing awesome. I hope someone can help me. The breeder I bought them from ensures me he has no illness or disease in his establishment, but who knows. Any advice would be great. Even though the vet says all is fine, I'm still worried. I know you are all thinking so go to another vet, but This guy is the only one where I live that knows about snakes, and I searched high and low. PLEASE HELP! The skin creases from coiling. You can tell dehydration by pinching a bit of skin and it stays pinched when you let go. If it falls back into place then the snake is fine.
How often are you feeding and what are you feeding. Also how big is the snake?

Hi there thanks for your reply. Adam and Eve are 26-27" long. I breed rats for thier food. They eat every 7 days. Never with any problems, no other symtoms to suggest illness, I'm probably just paranoid, but I hate to lose them. Thanks again any advice greatly appreciated.

I'm going to have to agree with your vet; everything sounds fine. He may be coming into a growth spurt, too. They all grow at different rates. The pedialyte is correct; it is usually administered by letting them soak in it. I have never used it, mainly because I haven't had the need. Anytime you need to use a product that is not approved for use on reptiles, I become leary and wil only use as a last case scenario. I think there is a chance that you could give too much pedialyte, and cause other problems, although I am not sure. Your best bet, if you think that he is deydrated, give him a bath and let him swim once a week. He will get exercise, and absorb some water that way. Using something like pedialyte should be a last case scenario, IMO.
