Try looking close to the cage first, in any place that may be warm and dark. You didn't say what kind of snake it was, but even if it's a terrestrial species, don't rule out places above the floor. I once woke up to crashing noises coming from my bathroom and found my ball python knocking things off the sink, so remember even they can climb if they want to. Also look in any closets, as this seems to be a popular hiding place. If you can, keep the door shut to the room the cage is in, and try to block up the space under the door to prevent him from getting into the rest of the house. If you don't find him by bedtime, you can try pouring a line of flour or something similar around any places you think he may be hiding, and across any doorways you can't block up. It's messy, but you will be able to tell if he's crossed any of the lines and what direcrion he's gone. Good luck, and remember he's probably in the place you least expect.

They will most look for a warm and dark spot to hide. You could try putting a heat pad on low with some sort of hide and leave a mouse in there overnight and it might attract him to it and he will stay there after he eats.

Turel,
The water, heat, food...the flour .....all of these things will help. Try not to allow too much traffic in the room for obvious reasons and do make sure the door is kept closed.
I've lost snakes that were found and I've lost a snake that were never found. I didn't have this forum then and the best help I could find was the exterminating companies since they get called all the time. They mentioned the water and food....but never thought of the flour or heat source.
I do know this.....all clothes, baskets, trash cans....anything that can be slithered into is fair game and must be checked daily especially before removed from the house for disposal.
My pythons were great about getting out at first when I still needed training ....luckily I found them all in time......one took 15 days and almost crawled in my lap off the back of the toilet tank....she'd been curled up there on the magazines. She did everything they said she wouldn't also....she traveled into the coldest room, across the cold tile floors, up cold porcelain...at least with the overhead wood structure holding all the bath accessories she had found dark. She warmed up well and drank and ate the same day and was none the worse for my emotional turmoil.......she taught me a grand lesson.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Sandy

Hi again,
You can try the pest control folks yet I seriously doubt they will have any further ideas or tricks to flush it out or find it. They should talk to you on the phone ....ask for a supervisor or technician....
Good luck...

Do you have a cat that you can follow around to see if it acts strange around certain areas, thats worked well for me, I just watch the cats, they seem to know were the creepy crawlies are hiding.

Turel,
Just remembered where I found my Leucistic Texas Rat Snake male when he got out once.
These snakes are fast yet I was so lucky since he is very shy.
Since my hubby is still working on the Ball Python Habitat his work vac was in the room.
Now the hose ended up being a grand hiding place. When I realized he was in it I simply placed it in the feeding tub and covered it (the tube is at least 10 ft. long and no way to shake him out)and he came out in due time.
Then I decided the vacuum hoses and several of the attachments would make great hides for the lil buggers so I keep a few hanging out in case I need them. PVC pipes would work also. The vac hose was black though and very appealing to Niller (his name.)
If I think of anything else.....I'll post it. Please keep in touch as to it's status. I'm rooting for ya!
Sandy
