Hi, I have an 8 month old RTB and he just got done shedding last night and I just realized that it looks like he is missing some scales. He has one white spot on his side about the 1/8 in and he also has like a white patch on the top that looks like his about to loose some scales but hasnt yet? What is it and what do i need to do? Is it going to hurt him in anyway? Will they grow back? He has never been bitten or attacked by any mice since i feed him prekilled. He did get stuck under the hood of my truck once but I never noticed anything there before but he started to shed the next day. Thanks for any information you can give me.

Would you be able to post pics of it? It may help us to identify the problem better.

RT - Welcome to the site! Hang around, there are a lot of good folks here with lots of good information...
But you know you will eventually have to tell us the story of the red tail and the pick up truck, right?

Thanks for the welcome, But no the truck was not running and i really do not think it is a burn. It really just looks like he ripped a few scales off. The cage is keeped around 75-80 on one side and 80-85 on the other. Humidity is around 50-60%. It really doesnt look like he is in much pain with it, he really doesnt have a problem with me touching it. I think he might have done it while i was fighting to get him unwrapped because he was wedged under the cowl grill of my truck. But my real worry is if it will grow back or heal itself. It isnt swollen or have any liquid or puss of any kind. I will try and put some of that medicine on it tonight just in case.

A picture would be good to have if by any means you could get us one. Also, the temperatures on the warm side are a little low, they should be around 86-88.

Look! It's another Atlanta Area boa person!
I am in favor of renaming this site "The Atlanta Herp Club".
Another possibility is that your snakes scales could just be turning white. Do the affected scales seem to be indented or raised?
One common misconception is that snakes scales are individual bits. The real story is, they are all connected and are part of one living skin.
Good luck with your snake and Welcome to this site!
-Your Sick Uncle Morti.
