Ok so yes i am over anxious of course to hold my baby. He has only been here two days and the advice i was given was 4-7 days before handling him. Well i could see the wisdom in that because whenever i would enter the room he would perk up and take to a bit of a defensive pose ya know, but now he seems comfortable with me near him and doesnt move at all when i near his cage. So do you guys give a certain number of days always or play it by what you see in their reactions to you being around?

I usually give them around 3-7 days to let them settle in. It depends from snake to snake, some enjoy being handled right away and some with be uncomfortable and probably stressed.

ok lemme rephrase the question. You said you give them around 3-7 days to settle in, how do you decide whether to hold them at 3 or 5 or 7 days. What is it that you look for that would make you hold one at 3 days and another at 7 days?

Thought i would toss the one pic on my digi of my snake my roomy didnt erase on here while bringing this topic back up to the top. I'll post better pics when he is set in and more comfortable. As you can see from this pic he isnt quite as amazing as the pic they sent me from Upstate Exotics, but i kinda figured he couldnt be without bein a suri, but he does look good.
My still nameless baby boy

3-7 days is a basic guideline. Whether it is 3, 5, 7, or 10 days all depends on your snake. Read his posture. If you can walk up to his cage without him looking like he is going to strike, then try handling him. If he looks like he is going to strike, walk away and try again the next day. Your snake will let you know when he is calmed down sufficently to attempt handling.
