Okay, I'm freaking out. I just went in to check on Kali to see if she ate, and the rat is gone, but I noticed a bloody patch on her back, and lots of blood on the bottom of her box.... the patch on her back looks like a bite, but I can't tell if the blood in the box is from her or tha rat... and I don't want to reach in and check her just yet due to her just eating and liable to bite me. I am worried, I haven't had to deal with a bite yet

I know that this is a scary situation for you but you need to take a deep breath and calm yourself. Your snake will sense your anxiety and just make it more difficult for you to care for it.
Make sure that you wash your hands thouroughly before getting the snake out. They grab a towel, pillowcase or something to throw over your snakes head as that will lessen the chance of you being bitten. This is one of those times when you may have to suffer a bite. There are times that you must risk it.
Check the site and see if it is indeed a bite. If it is you will need to clean it and then treat it with neosporin twice a day until it resolves and it completely closed. Make sure that the neosporin you use does not have a numbing agent in it.
At this point, I have to ask why you are feeding live prey? I just realized that I am only assuming Kali is a snake. What is Kali and why are you feeding live prey? I understand that there are situations when people feel it is necessary, but what is going on with your animal that warrents feeding live?

well I just looked in on her again, and it doesn't look like a bite, i see several spots of blood on her, it looks like the rat, for lack of a better word, burst. What would cause a rat to bleed so much? I've never seen one bleed more than a spot...
And I feed her live, but I stun it, which is why I was so freaked, since I never put it in when it's concious enough to bite her.

With everything that is going on right now, I just wanted to say very nicely and calmly put wolf. Please think about feeding at least fresh killed if not frozen thawed (if you are indeed feeding live) I have a Ball Python that is missing a tail because of live food he was fed in the past. Unless you are looking at a very aggressive snake, I would risk the bite just to make sure the snake is ok.

I agree with TrinityWolf...
Be Extreamly careful when you clean the wound site... If it is too deep, there is a risk of doing further tissue damage. If it looks bad when you get your snake out, definately take your snake to a qualified reptile vet as close to imediately as possible. If it is just a light wound, do what he says and get some neosporin or other triple antibiotic ointment with no pain killer and apply it to the wound daily.
If you can, get some pics of the bite. That will be good stuff to show to other people as one more good reason why NOT to feed live.
Good luck!

Thanks dlamphere. She deserves the oportunity to speak without being yelled at. I appreciate you writing that though.
If you stun the animal why not just kill it? If your snake will take stunned prey, it will take freshly killed prey. If you are not killing the prey prior to feeding, you are doing your animal a huge disservice. Please reconsider your reasons for feeding stunned prey. Your snake will thank you for it. I can't say enough about the benifits of feeding f/t for both you and your snake. Once again, I understand that there are circumstances to feed live, but it doesn't sound like this is one of them.
Donnie made some good points that I missed. If your snake has been bitten very deeply, you really need to take it to a vet. Thanks Donnie.
