Dented Eye...
Hey everyone, first post here. This is a great forum... lot's of useful reptile info and knowledgeable reptile people.
That being said I hope there is someone out there who can help me. My Sonoran Boa slept up against the glass of his enclosure and now his eye is dented in. This has happened once before, and the dent went away with time, but I’m still concerned. Has anyone else seen this happen? Any way I can prevent it? Any way I can fix it now?
Hope to hear from somebody, thanks in advance.

Re: Dented Eye...
It's normally a sign of dehydration.

Re: Dented Eye...
Wow fast responses.
But they arn't eyecaps left over, his last shed was perfect head to tail including both eyecaps. And he has plenty of water (For a snake from the desert he sure spends a lot of time in it) and I mist him frequently. So it's not dehydration or humidity.
He'll just coil himself up in a corner or something and sleep with his face right up on the glass- that's how he gets the dent. I just feel bad for him because it looks awful and I'm sure it probably affects his vision.
But like I said it's happened once before and it went away eventually. It just worries me, the poor guy.

So, if he is soaking alot and doesn't have mites, it probably means that he is dehydrated. Sure he might have alot of water and you might mist alot, but what is the humidity in the cage? Doesn't matter how much water you think is in there, what matters is the humidity. It probably went away before because he was able to get the amount of moisture he needed and luckly it allowed the correct moisture concentration back into the eye. It dents from him being up against the glass due to the dehydration. Don't mess around with it or else it won't just look awful and mess up his vision, he will end up going blind for sure.

Re: Dented Eye...
Yep, it's a humidity issue, and once it's fixed that dent will go away within hours.

Re: Dented Eye...
Why is he coiled up in a corner with his face against the glass if he has a good cozy hide to sleep in? Put a nice hide in there in the same corner he sleeps in, with some soft substrate like dried grass, leaves, or aspen or whatever you can get that is not toxic. Also, pack the substrate up against the glass outside of the hide, so hopefully, he does not press his eye on the hard glass.
Hope he recovers!
