Is there any way of obtaining any one of these outside of the U.S.? Any European members here have any cans or know where to obtain them? Thanks.

just find an insect repellant that is .5% Permethrin, that is the active ingredient in POM.

If you can get Sawyer's tick repellent in spain, it's just as good as anything else on the market, it's all I use

Sawyers is Provent a Mite in a different can.
If it is available, or if you find anything else with permethrin in it, treat it just like the instructions for PaM say.
Do NOT use directly on the snake.
Treat the cage, minus water bowl and snake.
It can and will kill the snake if it has contact with or ingests permethrin based products.

Alright, thanks guys. I'll look around for that active ingredient. I haven't searched around for Sawyer's tick repellent but I doubt they sell it here. All I see here is T-Rex Bio-Mite and Zoo Med Mite Off but from what I've read only BK, PAM and Sawyer's really work. Hopefully I'll find something with that active ingredient.
You guys don't know how lucky you are that you have so many products available to you over in the U.S.
If I do find an insect repellent with permethrin in it, how should I apply it? Can any of you describe how to properly use PAM?

Oh, one more thing, would it be OK if I found an insect repellent that had other quantities of permethrin other than 0.5%? That would only affect how fast it would work, right?

The products you are listing off are usually found in reptile/pet stores. The Sawyers can be found in stores like a pharmacy or department type store that have a camping area usually. That is where I find the sawyers here np.

I've looked around for a similar product to Provent-a-Mite (looking for the active ingredient) but so far no luck. Tomorrow I'll try the last place I can think of, otherwise I'll have to ship it in from the U.S. I've found a couple of places that will ship PAM to Spain, none for BK.
If you can just spray everything but the snake and water bowl, how do you get mites off from the snake then? I know they'll die if they walk on an area that has been previously sprayed, but do they get off the snake at all or do I have to pick them off? I'd prefer not to do this as I might not get their heads out.
So far I've tried cod liver oil and alcohol and I've seen no improvement.

I believe the spray residue will kill the mites from the snake crawling around (most mites prefer the belly scales...)...could be wrong though...as far as pulling them off, they aren't like ticks...no worries about heads or anything...get some oil or the like, and gently squeeze them out from the scales. It's not hard, and as far as I know, isn't very uncomfortable to the snake if done properly.

YUP.. Just remove the water bowl and snake, spray the enclosure and mix the substrate around some..then cover the cage and place a towel or such over the venting for cage. Wait like an hour and then open the cage cover.. mix substrate around some more and then let sit and air out for about an hour. Then just place the water and snake back into the cage. The snake burrowing around and about the substrate will get the residual at the mites and kill them also.
As far as "squeezing" them outta the sacles..UGH. Don't squeeze them, rather just remove them is all. There's no need to go pinching your snake like that at all. Just gently lift the scales up where the mites are and remove the mite is all. BTW.. YA really don't need to manually remove the mites if it is not a MAJOR infestation actually. They will die off from the stuff your using and fall out/off is all basically. I just give them a good soaking like a week later to make sure is all.

Sorry...guess I shoulda specified more...there's really no pinching/squeezing involved...but you can push the mite out by gently scraping your fingernail over the bump it creates under the scale...that's the way I did it on my snake, and he woulda told me if he didn't like it! with the oil, they slid right out with the fingernail method, with very little effort. I didn't do the lifting of the scales technique, 'cause I figured that would hurt more, by accidentally bending the scale too far up... plus you're scraping ...just seemed too risky at the time for me to try that...BTW, I was referring mainly to the stomach scales...those are a little harder to lift than the others, right? Either way...the provent-a-mite will take care of the job for you...for the most part. I used it on the last infestation quite a few months ago, and they haven't been back since... I use Rid Lice Control for bedding and furniture. I use it just like provent-a-mite.
