Chlorine or Sodium Bicarbonate?
I know the title is strange, but hey, you looked.
Question for anyone with serious responses please.
I have a 5'8" BCC that loves to take baths in the tub. I live in Southern Arizona and the chlorine content of the tap water is quite high. I know that baking soda can neutralize the chlorine, but I am concerned about putting it in the water without knowing for sure if it is bad for the snake. Can it be worse for them than chlorine?
No, I do not give my snakes tap water in their 'homes'. I give them spring water. No, I do not mist my snakes with tap water. I use spring water.
I don't even want to know how much it would cost to bath my snake in the tub with spring water 4-5 times a week. Sooo....?

Re: Chlorine or Sodium Bicarbonate?
Sorry to say it but that is one reason I am glad I don't live in AZ anymore. But then again I give my snakes baths in normal tap water.
Or do what she said.

Re: Chlorine or Sodium Bicarbonate?
I'd just get a filter for the sink, and run a hose into the bathroom.
Also a possibility to save on water.... Get a goat feed bucket. They're made out of some kind of rubber, and big enough for a 7' boa to soak in(if your snake is that big) so if your snake needs to soak, they can do it themselves. Otherwise, maintain proper temps and humidity, always allow a dish big enough to soak in, and you really shouldn't need to give your snake a soak in the bath unless they're having a difficult shed.
Hope that helps!

Re: Chlorine or Sodium Bicarbonate?
If you can allow tap water to stand for 24 hours most if not all of the chlorine will have gassed off and it will be safe to use.
I have a well, not fit to drink, and purchase RO water in gallon jugs by the case for our animals and cooking.

I'll admit...I haven't kept up much with the latest trends in boa care, on account of not having had one in years, but 4-5 baths a week seems like a lot. I know the humidity is low in AZ, but still, that seems like maybe a bit too often.
Unless, of course, popular consensus on the matter has changed since I last cared. If so, I'm sure someone will be all too glad to correct me.

I moved the thread for you.
Why do you think the boa "loves" the frequent baths? I suspect he or she would do just as well without them.

Re: Chlorine or Sodium Bicarbonate?
He told me he likes them. It is something the previous owner did...due to the fact he likes to stretch out in the water. And he stays. I figure if he didn't like it, he would get out of the tub....He is getting ready to shed and I'll let you know how it goes.
