Well
Just wondering but how do people think is an adequite size rat for a 4 foot BP. How do you gage it on ball pythons? Is it the same as BCI's or is it different? If it is the same then I should be able to feed mine bigger prey. Just making sure because for some reason my BP hasn't been gaining any weight what so ever and eats like crazy.

Re: Well
Medium rats will do fine. But if it is not putting on weight, you may want to get a fecal done to make sure it does not have parasites.

Re: Well
Just had one done. Took her/him to the vet last week. Got a fecal while I was there and did a float and the whole nine yards. Nothing parasite wise. I think I will feed her and a medium. Thought that all she could handle was a small. How do you gauge it on BP's?

Re: Well
Ball pythons can take pretty large prey items. Go by girth, a rat about the same size around as the thickest part of the BP's body's an easy meal, though they can take a slightly larger size than that. Yours could probably easily take mediums at the size it's at right now, though keep in mind it's probably nearly fully grown, and they start to slow down drastically in weight-gain and growth once they hit maturity.

Re: Well
Yeah I got him as a rescue. He is about 7 years old. When I got him he was only 3 foot and very skinny and boney. I have gotten him up to 4 feet and over 1000 grams.
