Re: thermostat
Are you asking about the temp probe for the thermostat? Are the CHEs and the uth all controlled by it?

Re: thermostat
I'm no expert on this, but I would have the sensor near the uth to make sure it doesn't cook the snake. The CHEs could be on a timer, but a rheostat would be better, limiting the current they get and thereby limiting their max output. I'm sure someone will chime in soon with a better answer. Make sure you don't overload the thermostat. If you had a rheostat for the uth, your thermostat could be in the warmest spot, and control the CHEs for ambient.

Re: thermostat
Do a search for "rheostat" here, and you'll find lots of discussion on temp control.

Re: thermostat
you can not control both the ches and the heat mat on the same thermostat.

Because they use different amounts of energy and will result in overheating or under-heating of either the heat mat or the CHE's (perhaps dangerously).
Buy an $11 in-line dimmer at Home Depot and run the CHE's with the thermostat and you should be jammin'.
